Types Of Lipedema
Here’s the thing about lipedema - it doesn’t show up the same way for everyone. In fact, doctors break it down into different “types” depending on where the fat builds up. And yep, you can totally have more than one type at the same time (because why not, right?).
TIP: MANY WOMEN HAVE A MIX OF TYPES, SO IF YOU SEE YOURSELF IN MORE THAN ONE, YOU'RE NOT ALONE
Type I
Hips, buttocks, and thighs
Fat accumulation mainly around the hips, buttocks, and thighs with minimal involvement of the lower legs.

Type II
Hips, thighs, and knees
Fat deposits extend from the hips through the thighs down to the knees, sparing the lower legs.

Type III
Hips, thighs, knees, and lower legs
Fat accumulation affects the hips, thighs, knees, and extends partially into the lower legs.

Type IV
Upper arms and forearms
Fat deposits occur primarily in the arms, often involving upper arms and sometimes forearms.

Type V
Lower legs below the knees
Fat accumulation is localized mainly around the lower legs, below the knees, with sparing of the upper legs.
